Pryzbyla Center pic

Name: Pryzbyla Center. Named for Edward J. Pryzbyla, an alumnus and benefactor.

Date: 2003

Architect: Bohlin, Cywinski & Jackson

Elevation: ca. 185'

Use: Campus center with food service, shops, lounges, meeting rooms and offices.

Style: Early-21st-century modern.

Composition: L-shape

Size: Three stories.

Gross square footage—102,911.

Net square footage—88,023.

Materials: Tan brick

Trim: Metal

Roof: Part flat, part inverted shed.

Windows: Glass panels with aluminum frames.

Doors: A pair of double glass doors facing east (on the first floor) and another facing west (on the second floor).

Note: This is a purpose-built, special use structure.

Setting: The midcampus building faces west. The second floor main entry faces a lawn. The first floor entry to the east faces the Columbus School of Law across a formal landscaped area that is above the law school parking structure.

Architecture: This is an early-20th century modern building with large glass planes and public spaces. A plaza to the west serves for assembly and outdoor dining. Though of its times, it is comfortable in scale, materials, color and disposition with the nearby historic structures. It also forms a formal composition with the law school to the east.

History: The Pryzbyla Center opened in 2003, replacing those functions formerly in Cardinal Hall. The site previously served as the original university stadium.

Significance: The architecture of the Pryzbyla Center is of sufficient merit to be considered for its contribution to the architectural and historic qualities of the campus when it has exceeded 50 years of age.

Condition: The Pryzbyla Center is in excellent condition and in no need of renovation at this time. Minor office space renovations were completed in 2004, to include general floor plan modifications.
