History: Built in 1962 as a residence hall, condemned at the beginning of the 21st century, and vacant at this writing.
Significance: Spalding Hall is not a contributing structure. It is unrelated to the main campus across Michigan Avenue and in its present condition is an adverse presence in the community.
Condition: Due to extensive repair problems, lack of air conditioning and inability to attract students to live in the facility, the hall was closed in 1991. The campus master plan reserves the site for potential cooperative ventures and mixed use development. Considering demolition of the building to accomplish this.
